It has both power and elegance on its side. Spearmint and cherry-plum flavours build excellent momentum before a finely turned finish. At no point is succulence sacrificed.

15 days on skins post ferment. Basket pressed into 100% used French oak. 50 dozen. A juicy start leads to a stern finish. As a young wine it begs to be decanted. Spearmint, redcurrant, twists of briary herbs, boysenberry. It doesn't feel thick, it feels lively. Or it does right up until the finish, where slightly coarse tannin takes over. Extra time in bottle won't hurt it.

Treads skilfully; good mouthfeel and balance, a touch of ginger and peach.

This is a carefully managed, elegant style that befits the eminent viticultural/scientific standing of founder John Stocker. It lays the groundwork with precision, and each time you go back to the wine for a further taste, the better the balance, mouthfeel and varietal flavour spectrum works

A very well constructed blend ticking both the flavour and structure boxes; blackcurrant fruit is the driver, ripe cabernet tannins in play from the word go, but not seeking to dominate the perfectly ripened fruits. Onwards and upwards.
